Timsbury Athletic capped a memorable season in the UHlsport Somerset County League Division One with a 2-1 home win against Middlezoy Rovers Reserves. That confirmed them as champions following Wells City’s defeat against Saltford. They made hard work of it in the first half and went in one down but a much improved performance after the break secured the points.
The victory meant that Timsbury have gone throughout the season undefeated at home and have played some of their most attractive football for years. They got back on level terms with a left-foot strike from Jack Nix and won the game with a right-foot volley from skipper Callum Taylor 10 minutes from time. Promotion had already been confirmed but the championship was very much the icing on the cake and huge congratulations go to the whole squad and managers Ben Ward and Ben Hancock. The final match of the season is away to Middlezoy Rovers Reserves on the astro turf at Bridgwater College when the championship trophy will be presented.
One sad note to the day was the news of the death of the chairman Rob Veater’s wife Caroline and a minutes’s silence was held at the start of the game.
