Timsbury Cricket Presentation night 2025

14/10/2025 by Timsbury Parish Council Leave a Comment

Chairman Ben Hosford looked back on another enjoyable year when Timsbury Cricket Club held its annual presentation night at the clubroom. He called it a belter of a season with all three teams proving competitive and said that there was a great buzz around the club.

The club’s under 19s had done well in their Friday night encounters and Josh Barlass who captained the side looked back on some very encouraging results. He said that everyone had contributed and had gelled well as a team.

2024 had been a tough season for the third eleven but captain Chris Rawlings said that there had been a definite improvement this year with four wins and a tie. The tie at Hampset had been achieved after the home side had only needed a few runs with nine wickets in hand and had indicated the great spirit in the team. He saw the third team as offering great opportunities for youngsters and said it was also pleasing to see a number of parents playing in the same team as their sons. For his all-round performances Matt Ball was voted player of the year.

The second team finished sixth in Division 6 of the Bristol and District League winning seven of their matches and losing eight. New captain Adam Workman said that they had seen a total of 45 different players representing the team but that it had been a very enjoyable campaign. For his outstanding batting displays Josh Tucker was second team player of the year.

First team captain Jesse Bishop, who was later named as the clubperson of the year for all his efforts throughout the season, was unable to attend the function but his report was read out by the chairman. Looking back on a season that had seen the team narrowly miss out on promotion he said that remarkably there had been five last-ball thrillers with Timsbury winning four of them. He commented on the great help he had received from some of the older heads in the team and said  that there had been a great atmosphere in the team. He thanked Ben Hosford for all the work he did for the club. Kev Sibley who was there at the end in some of the last ball thrillers was a popular choice as player of the season for the first team.

The chairman paid tribute to all those members of the club who had helped throughout the season and there was a special mention for Martyn Sage who had looked after the wicket at the school for over forty years but had reluctantly decided to stand down from the role. Flowers were given to a number of the ladies who had supported the club in lots of different ways.
