Timsbury have gone to the top of the Bristol and District League Division 1 after a convincing 83-run home win over Portishead. For the second week in a row victory was set up by an excellent opening partnership between Mark Sage and Greg Passingham. The latter batted with real positive intent and when he was the first out with the total on 93 he had amassed an impressive 57. Sage was his usual reliable self compiling 77 and although Timsbury lost a series of late wickets searching for full bonus points a total of 199-7 in their 40 overs always looked a steep challenge. Mike Hooper took 3-27 for the visitors.
Portishead remained well in the match when they reached 85-2 but the dismissal of the dangerous Charlie Mott for 35 proved pivotal . The remaining eight wickets fell for just 31 runs with Martin Richards again impressing for the home side with a spell of 3-17 from his eight overs.
Timsbury’s second and third elevens continue to find it tough going with so many regular players unavailable. The seconds travelled to Hanham seconds in the Bristol and District League Division 5 and were beaten by eight wickets. Batting first Timsbury were dismissed for 117 with teenager Henry Webb taking the honours with a spirited knock of 31. Joseph White anchored the home side’s reply with an unbeaten 48 but the visitors showed a lot of application and it took nearly 30 overs for Hanham to cross the line.
Timsbury’s third eleven visited a strong Bristol Sri Lankans 2nd XI but despite a heavy defeat it was good to see some young players getting experience of league cricket. The home side compiled 235 but Timsbury stuck to the task and were delighted to collect full bowling points. Neil Watkins led the way for Timsbury with figures of 4-46 and Matt Ball took 2-26. A potent home attack then dismissed Timsbury for 42.
