All celebrations that were planned throughout the country for this day sadly had to be cancelled due to the Coronavirus. However, the Royal British Legion Somerset have asked all Branches to parade their Standard in their communities on the 8th May at 1100hrs to observe the two minutes silence. To join in with this Chris Fiddes the Standard Bearer along with Barry Sewell the Timsbury RBL Branch Chairman will be on parade at the Memorial at 1100hrs in Newmans Lane.
Anyone who wishes to come along is welcome, but must observe the 2m social distancing rules.
Also on the day it would be great to see everyone in Timsbury holding their own celebration with their family, in your house or garden. I’m sure you can think of lots of idea’s for this, Flying the Union Jack, red, white & blue bunting, fancy dress party, food, dancing, singing or just music all with a military theme! Maybe we could have a competition to see who has the best decorated front window or garden in Timsbury?
Myself and Barry Sewell in our old uniforms and William Bertram in his WWII jeep will parade around the village starting at 1600hours from Timsbury Royal British Legion. We will be waving and cheering! and hoping to see everyone celebrating this very special and important event in our history.
