Littering, dog fouling and fly tipping will be subject to increased enforcement with fines of up to £150 (littering) and £400 (fly tipping) under a proposal approved by BANES Council Cabinet early this month.
Under the plan the council would enter into a 12-month pilot scheme with a private sector provider putting enforcement officers on the streets, in parks and public spaces seven days a week.
Current enforcement activity is focussed in the city centre but the proposal will allow enforcement officers to tackle the problem across the whole district to reduce environmental crime and have cleaner, greener communities.
The Cabinet decision has been ‘called in’ for further consideration at the request of 10 BANES councillors and a final announcement will be made soon.
