War Memorial Rededication & DDay Landing Commemorations Sat 8th June 3pm πŸ—“ πŸ—Ί

31st May 2019 by admin Parish Council

by Chris Fiddes of the Timsbury Royal British Legion:

Many residents may have noticed the village War Memorial has been remodelled and looks fantastic.

As a result, everyone is invited to a Rededication Service at the Memorial to be conducted by the Rev Martin Blewett. Attending will be representatives from the Royal British Legion County, Branch, Club, Standard Bearers, Parish Council and William Bertram the Architect, also the Brownies and Guides TBC.

We will have a very special guest/VIP: Mr Bert Matthews, who was one of the original architects and builder of the memorial back in 1967-68 when the Legion Club first opened at its present location. Bert will be 100 years old in November this year, making him one of the oldest surviving heroes from the DDay landings in the area. Bert was called up for National Service in 1940 aged 21 and served in the Royal Engineers for 5yrs. He also survived active service in El -Alamein during WW2. Bert has said it will be a great honour to be our VIP for this event on this the 75th Anniversary Year of D-Day!!

We do hope to see as many residents from the village as possible attend the service and also after for refreshments in the RBL Club following the Rededication of our Memorial to the 29 men from Timsbury who gave their lives in WW1 – WW2.

It has taken a few years to get this beautiful remodelled Memorial and special event for our village! Thanks to the Royal British Legion, Parish Council who funded it, William Bertram (architect) and Gary Peggrum the builder.
