Timsbury’s disappointing start to the new season continued with an early exit from this year’s National Village Cup competition at home to Wembdon. After being put in to bat they were all out for 108 and despite a battling performance in the field were eventually beaten by four wickets.
Batting was never easy for either side but Kevin Sibley worked hard for Timsbury with a gutsy innings of 31. Mark Sage, captain Jon Strand and Graeme Webb were the only other players to reach double figures as Timsbury were all out with more than 10 overs of their innings left. Mike Watts (3-31) and Brendan Pope (2-18 in 8 overs) were the visitors’ most successful bowlers.
Webb struck early with the ball when Wembdon replied and Strand gave Timsbury hope with a spell of 3-18 in his eight overs but an undefeated 33 from Jack Lowe, well supported by Tom Lott (23) and Aaron Rees (20), saw the Bridgwater side home with just over three overs to spare.
