Portishead welcomed Timsbury to the picturesque Lake Grounds in the Bristol and District Senior Division. Having won the toss Portishead invited Timsbury to bat first on a pitch, looking slightly green, due to recent rains.
Indeed this was a decision that Timsbury took full advantage of with openers Mark Sage and Adam Brinkworth putting on 114 in 19 overs to set up an excellent base for the visitors to kick on from. Brinkworth was first out for a valuable 24, Sage taking centre stage with a typically belligerent 86, in quick time, allowing later batsmen to fully express themselves. Graeme Webb with 16 and Kevin Sibley with a quality 34 kept the scoreboard moving. A mid innings wobble was more than adequately repaired by Gary Pearcy, 30, and last week’s opener Jon Strand, with a hard hitting 43 not out in the Timsbury total of 264 for 7 after their allocation of 45 overs. Both Neil Lenihan and Shaun Todd claimed 2 wickets each.
Ellis Hancock, with the first ball of the Portishead reply, put the home side immediately on the back foot, bowling the opener with one that pitched leg and clipped off, a blow the home side never recovered from. Taking a wicket with their first ball was a feat repeated by both Captain Steve Clothier and Vice Captain Jon Strand as the game progressed. Not only were Portishead falling behind the run rate, but were also losing wickets at regular intervals. For Portishead there were contributions of 25 from Captain Hooper, 23 from Dangerfield and 22 from Habib. Clothier and Hancock finished with 2 wickets each but Tom Clark took the bowling honours by taking 3-6 as Portishead were bowled out for 116. A convincing win for Timsbury who took maximum points.
Timsbury look forward to the visit of Hambrook next week.
